SPACE MURALS, INC., MUSEUM AND GIFT SHOP
A complete history of space exploration, an astronaut memorial and actual missiles are just some of the out-of-this-world exhibits on display

FT. SELDEN STATE MONUMENT
Established in 1865 to protect settlers from outlaws and Apaches, this state monument is a short 13-mile drive north of Las Cruces. Ft. Selden once housed an infantry and cavalry company including the Buffalo Soldiers. General Douglas MacArthur also spent several years of his childhood here in the 1880s. Monument features trails and exhibits.

WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE MUSEUM
The site of the world's first atomic explosion and the birthplace of man's first journey into space, the White Sands Missile Range Museum is one-stop shopping for space enthusiasts. The museum explores both of these modern events as well as providing a window on the pre-history of the region, early pioneering efforts, mining and the Army's 19th century contributions to the settlement of Southern New Mexico. Features outdoor missile park.

THE UNIVERSITY ART GALLERY, NMSU
is the largest contemporary art gallery in south central New Mexico. The UAG presents 6-8 exhibitions annually of contemporary and historical art. The UAG permanent collection of over 3,000 objects includes prints, photographs and over 1,730 Mexican retablos. The UAG offers a vigorous educational program including school tours, lectures, workshops, symposia, opening receptions and docent training. Free admission.

THE UNIVERSITY MUSEUM, NMSU
is an anthropology museum located on the campus of New Mexico State University at Kent Hall. It's public programs and interpretive exhibits explore the living traditions of cultures in the Southwest and northern Mexico. The University Museum is a teaching museum. The staff teaches courses on Museum Studies and uses anthropological collections for learning about cultural diversity in our region. The Friends of the University Museum is a public membership program that supports educational activities. Free admission.

CITY OF LAS CRUCES' NEW MEXICO RAILROAD & TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM
In 1998 the Las Cruces City Council approved a joint proposal from the Museum System and the Las Cruces Transit Department to convert the Historic Santa Fe Depot at 351 N. Mesilla Street, Las Cruces, NM into the New Mexico Railroad and Transportation Museum. Open Sat 10am-2pm
Opening in May of 2003 to coincide with Founder's Day Event on May 10th, the museum will become an interactive learning center in an atmosphere that will be exciting to both adults and youth with an emphasis on Transportation Issues. Over time and through a variety of exhibits and programs the Museum intends to creatively attempt to encourage and support planning and implementation of strategies that improve the efficiency of the transportation system; reduce negative environmental impacts of transportation; reduce the need for costly future public infrastructure investments; and ensure efficient access to jobs, services, and centers of trade. |
